WEC to send ballot applications

The Wisconsin Elections Commission on Wednesday unanimously backed a proposal to send roughly 2.7 million voters an absentee ballot application.

Staffers anticipate just 1 percent of recipients will respond to the mailing, which will cost around $2.3 million.

I get lists of voters in my county, and when getting signatures or otherwise contacting them, I find that at least 10% are invalid, with some districts much higher. People move and die. Some use PO boxes. Contacting the Board of Elections is rarely high on anyone's list.

Besides, if you just send ballots, they often end up in the garbage since people often think they are just more election bullshit. If they respond to the application, you know they are serious.

And who wants thousands of ballots wandering around out there in the wild?
