Tim Hortons expanding into England, Scotland, Wales

Posted: Aug 31, 2016 12:01 PM ET

Tim Hortons is heading across the Atlantic in hopes that British tea drinkers may warm to the chain's coffee and doughnuts.

Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Tim's, said Wednesday it has reached a deal with an investor to expand the Canadian restaurant chain into England, Scotland and Wales.

"This deal is part of our growth plan to take the iconic Tim Hortons brand around the world," said Daniel Schwartz, chief executive of Restaurant Brands International.

Great Britain is an attractive market with a strong and growing coffee culture, Schwartz said, calling it "a natural fit."

Their foray into the U.S. did not work out too well. In Canada you can't go far without bumping into a Timmy's, and they're almost always busy.

It's just ... OK. It's not memorable, it's not distinctive, it's not special. It's like Dunkin Donuts meets Burger King or something.

Meh.

Maybe the one I went to up in northern Maine was lousy...but I don't think so. I think it just is what it is, fast food.

And the coffee was "OK." No complaints, but not "EwwMahGAWDThisISBettahThanCrack" good.

I am vacationing in Ireland and noticed a Tim Hortons. I think it was at the train station in Cork.

Bet BK will follow into the same countries. For those who don't know, BK bought TH a few years ago.
