Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been found guilty of conspiracy to hack phones.
His predecessor Rebekah Brooks was cleared of all charges in the phone-hacking trial.
Coulson went on to become director of communications for the prime minister, who has apologised and said hiring him was "the wrong decision".
Royals, celebrities and victims of crime were among those whose phones were hacked by the News of the World...

(9,601 posts)Brooks in her testimony to a House of Commons committee, admitted paying public officials for stories (bribery) but yet manages to convince a jury that she was innocent.

(9,601 posts)I was an agency worker performing an assignment in an agency of the Home Office. There were over 200 agency workers in total on this project. We all had to go through Developed Vetting (DV) for work which was mildly sensitive at best.
Andy Coulson was never put through DV unlike his last 6 or so predecessors. Apparently Downing Street based their decision on not putting Coulson through DV "to save on cost." I find that hard to believe.

And it seems to me the only logical step forward is to demand a retrial by combat, in which I will be championed by an eight foot tall man with a tendency toward extreme violence. If its good enough for Westeros I dont see why it isnt good enough for Westminster.
