If the part you're interested in isn't listed, check some advice messages boards to find out if other users have had any luck with the combination you're considering. You might save some frustration and money that way.

...compatible Crucial memory. To get the best deal find the manufacturer and model of the mother board and check the approved list.

For example the desktop system which I assembled a few years ago has a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3785#ov
There is a list of supported memory approved by the manufacturer:
http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-890gpa-ud3h_v.2.1.pdf

Some RAM makers have tools similar to the Crucial download:
http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator
This is G.Skill's configurator tool.

Windows has a system information app that may give you some valuable info about the system and components.
Start>>Run and enter msinfo32.exe in the dialog box and press "OK".

Good luck. Let me know if you need more advice.
