Any trustworthy email services online?
We just a minute ago were notified that our dsl provider (Frontier) is taking our email service and giving it to Yahoo, so that we will have to use Yahoo's online service for what I considered our "personal" email.
And Yahoo will have access to all our friend's email addresses.
As Mr. Dixie pointed out, one of the disadvantages of the "new" plan is all our addresses are now hacker bait.
So, am looking for a more private email service that is compatible with Linux/Thunderbird.
for now I am using the email in the Opera browser.

(22,144 posts)Its $5-6 a month. You can use catchall account to help monitor spammers. They are located in Germany which makes it harder for the US to get access.

(2,805 posts)Are you certain that you read the notification correctly? I don't see anything on Frontier's site saying that their email service is switching to Yahoo-only. Something doesn't sound right to me about this situation. Maybe, do a live chat with them to clarify?
I've had two Yahoo accounts, for years, that work fine but I find the one with a username which has numbers in it gets much less spam than the one with only letters.

(38,264 posts)Me, I've never been one to use email and I always tell people up front: if you want me to look at your "urgent" email you'd better call or text me first. Otherwise I check my email every fortnight or so, whether I need to or not. Currently my average email pick up time is about three days. Somebody will get a bee up their butt, call me, and when I log in I'll look at your email too.
Actually my kids have taken it even further than that. If a phone is ringing I'll feel this strong urge to answer it. My kids just keep playing their video games, eating their lunches, doing their homework, whatever, until the annoying noise stops. They live in a world of text messages.
Currently I'm letting google handle most of my email 'cause there's nothing in it I'd hide from the rest of the world and google does a pretty good job killing spam.
