Court cashier - court cashier! - busted for embezzling from court

The lead cashier in the Kentwood District Court Clerk’s Office is accused of embezzling some $2,000 that defendants thought they were paying to the court.

Kentwood District Court Judge William Kelly said an investigation found that Deanna Terranova was voiding receipts when people paid and was keeping the cash.

Other court workers caught on when someone else in the office was helping a woman whose court file had been closed but appeared to still owe money.

Judge Kelly said the court looked at all the voided receipts it had from the last two years and found it appeared that Terranova had been taking money for several months because of personal financial problems.
