Clinton joins Bloomberg to talk about data programs-Hillary Clinton Room Post

Hillary Clinton Room Post

Dana Rubinstein

Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got together Monday to talk to the media about the power of data to spur international progress and prevent unwanted outcomes.

“In some places governments don’t even have records of birth, not to mention other vital statistics, and certainly no mention of death,” said Bloomberg, speaking to an assemblage of policy wonks and reporters in the officers of Bloomberg Philanthropies, which is housed in a Beaux-Arts mansion filled with modern art on the Upper East Side. “If you read death certificates in many parts of the world, it says ‘act of God.’ Now it may very well have been an act of God, but it makes it awful hard for philanthropies to target their resources if they want to have God wait a little while longer.”

Clinton, who is well-positioned to bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, joined Bloomberg to announce an expansion of a health-related data program she launched in 2012, when she was secretary of state.
