Sally Field on Bernie Sanders: ‘He’s losing his decency’

Doric Sam

March 14, 2016

Two-time Oscar Award-winning actress Sally Field stopped by The Howard Stern Show for the first time on Monday to discuss her new film, Hello, My Name Is Doris. But things got much deeper than just the new project Field is promoting. She also touched on her political views, saying that she is hoping for Hillary Clinton to receive the Democratic nomination.

............Field went on to say that as the campaign has drawn on and tensions between the two candidates have grown stronger, she no longer sees Sanders the same way.

“To me, he’s losing my respect because at first I had a great deal of respect for him and now I just see him being hungry for his own achievement against the things he was really fighting for and how important it is now to have at least one party that’s acting in a civil fashion,” Field said. “I don’t want to see him yelling at anybody, at her, oh God no, not at her. They’re talking about real issues and really important things, and I think he’s losing his decency in this.”

She continued, “At the beginning I thought, ................

into the campaign my entire view point on him changed. Yes, I was amazed by his lack knowledge in regard to both international and domestic issues, but the thing that most influenced my loss of respect for him was the "in your face bullying tactics used by many of his supporters"

It seemed that any group or individual who endorsed Hillary would have their website or facebook page spammed by some of these Sanders supporters, followed by some of the most disgusting comments.

While I have no idea on the number Sanders' supporters who have subscribed to these "bullying" tactics, it seems that they have the loudest voices.

Ironically, it is those supporters who have done the greatest disservice to Bernie's campaign, and if Sanders fails in his bid, they are part of the reason

I was thinking the same thing. How much of the crude rhetoric by many of his supporters (not just DU) has influenced his campaign. Quite a lot I believe. They have become "something to believe In" for Bernie in some way.

There was a considerable change in tone in his campaign after he won New Hampshire. Instead of talking about issues he began to more and more trash Hillary at every opportunity. I also think this is why he started to recede. I think this would have been closer if he would have kept it positive and talking about his ideas rather than denigrating his opponent at every opportunity.

Anyone should be able to see that Sanders really, really wants to win--more than he wants anything else. He has become angry, bitter and divisive. All those "issues" that he has professed to care so much about only matter as long as he is at the top of the ticket. He would quite willingly blow the Democrat Party up. So much for coming together, fighting off the Republicans, and doing everything we can to stack Congress with as many Dems as possible in order to support a progressive agenda.

I have always loved Sally Fields

This isn't even about Hillary it's the entire party. I used to like him - but now I see him with a goal to destroy the Democratic party. Wanting to pull the party towards the left is one thing, I get that and agree with it. But I also know the country was pulled far right the last 40 years and it's not going back overnight and without a lot of work. Destroying the one party that has the best chance of pulling the country back to the left is contrary to his goal. He has caught the Trump insane quest for 'my way or no way' and can't see the forest for the trees anymore.

He is a fraud.

... everything else is unimportant compared to the message that "all of the all of the wealth is going to the top 1%". (Maybe you have heard him mention that.)

Surely by not his campaign has seen the writing on the wall, but he knows that if he one or two more days like next Tuesday, people will consider him irreverent and start tuning him out and contributing to his campaign. If that happens the message has no voice so Sanders will continue to attack Hillary hoping that he can win enough states, not to win, but to remain relevant so his message still has voice.

Ms. Fields is spot on. I have the exact same feeling about him. I was never enamored to begin with, but he seems to be getting caught up in something that has nothing to do with the idealism he espoused (however ham-fisted).
Feels like he bought his own hype somewhere along the line. And although I never found him very articulate or compelling, he is losing whatever light he was hoping to connect with. The campaign is losing badly, and they are showing every sign of being very poor losers. Mr. Sanders needs to stop his downward slide on a personal level, he can do nothing to stop it on a delegate level. He has lost his bid for the nomination, he needs to embrace whatever good he felt inspired him to attempt it in the first place. I am being generous here-- I never saw a bright light in him-- but I do seem him getting more and more negative in tone, in campaign, and in personal focus.
