(2,550 posts)I don't think he ever expected to win.
So he's put together a good campaign.
I really hope he begins to support Democrat's down the ticket.

(2,550 posts)Yes he'll shift his support.
No, his followers will sit at home unless Trump goes even further nuts and scares them into coming out.

(3,300 posts)His supporters are so much in rage and some of the things I hear is a big question will they support Hillary after the damage was done by him

And, all the free stuff he promises.. the People in the diverse states aren't buying it no matter how much money he spends.

(60,334 posts)If it was to divide the Democratic Party, he has partially succeeded in doing that.
I don't think he ever expected to get this far so that would also allow him to call it a success. I didn't expect to get to first base, but I made it to second base, no score but I did better than I thought I would.
Success can be so subjective.

(3,920 posts)He has accomplished two things.
1) He has shown that small money can compete effectively with big money.
2) He has shown that the "socialist" label is not a death sentence in American politics.
Those are major successes, and the fat lady hasn't quite yet begun to sing.

(4,640 posts)as success, in that he has succeeded in playing the Democratic Party, then sure. If you look at his vocal opposition to the party itself over the years, and that he has lumped Dems in with Repubs for years, then yes. Because he wants to destroy the party. He's only a Democrat because of MONEY and EXPOSURE. His own words, not supposition by me.
Overall, I'd have to say no.

(55,894 posts)his voting history and rhetoric and his current verbiage all clearly indicate he is much more radical than a social democrat.
Social democrats wouldn't want to seize Rockefeller's property.
It's called Freedom of Speech.

(15,951 posts)are my attacks hurting the prospective democratic nominee and aiding the GOP by building up her negatives? At that point and clearly he has no path to the nomination he should get out.

Don't get me started on his supporters
The post mortems on this campaign will not be kind.
ETA: best outcome: his campaign manager will no longer be in charge of funerals for our party. The post mortems will nail his hide to the wall.

(41,971 posts)He can spin it as a success if his actual goal was to bring economic injustice to the fore, and offer visions of alternatives, if he so chooses
To me, what actually has happened, is very different. What has happened is a lot of asses are showing. Bigotry and prejudice on the left has been exposed, gloves off, no pretty words to hide it. Successful and real grassroots movements such as BLM were able to use this exposure and start a revolution that matters. Sexism has shown us yet another face, with the ability to degrade a powerful woman and ignore what she is actually going to accomplish if she become POTUS.
We have found that a large and growing number of people on the left believe in conspiracy theories before they believe in facts, will accept any spin of a situation if it fits the narrative of thier opinion. (Most recently the "disastrous last eight years" bullshit, which not only was bullshit of epic proportions, but almost mind-numbing in its proliferation)
This exposure *is* the greatest success of the Sanders campaign. We, who hang out at DU, despite the awareness that it is a political bubble, I'm sure are not unaware that the Ugly American is very active all over the Internet. There is a LOT of push back, however, allies are finding each other, coalitions are being formed. The 3rd party-left and Democrats of good intent, heart and spirit abjure the bigotry, the sexism, the racial prejudice that this election cycle has exposed inside so many of us.
So we come, full circle. Wouldn't it be ironic if the greatest success of the Bernie movement was the awareness of and the promotion of the self reflection needed to promote social justice rather than the unobtainable economic changes that were called for? And once we have identified and owned our part and set the stage properly for social changes that matter, we reached out and made those economic changes in an environment conducive to them so they could reach all human beings?
