http://www.eluniversal.com/economia/140531/in-just-one-year-1795884-venezuelans-plunged-into-povertyThe National Statistics Institute has published figures mirroring the hardships Venezuelans face on a daily basis: as their earnings vanish, a growing number of people lack resources to cover their most pressing needs.
As reported by the National Statistics Institute, 1,795,884 Venezuelans plunged into poverty over a one-year span.
The institute's latest report on poverty, measured on the basis of income, shows that 25.4% of Venezuelans lacked the income to access the basic food basket during the second half of 2012. By the end of the same period in 2013, that number had grown to 32.1%.
Paying for basic food items and essential services, such as health, education and transportation, is impossible for 9,174,142 Venezuelans simply because they do not earn nearly enough.

How many lost money on the 401 Ks ?
How many lost their homes ?
How many students can not afford to pay their student loans ?
How many will never be able to afford to attend college ?
How many make minimum wage and are on food stamps ?
How many cannot afford to heat their homes ?
How many cannot afford gas for their car ?

(2,035 posts)Secondly, the US population is 10 times larger than Venezuela's. What you need to report then is rather on poverty rates rather than total number of people on poverty. If Venezuela has 3 million of its population living in poor conditions, then that equals to about 10% of its general population. If it was 3 million in the us, it would be around 1% of its general population. The situations are not comparable. Stop trying to find excuses for the failed the government that is the Chavista regime, which has plunged Venezuela to the brink of ruin, especially after Maduro took power. Numbers don't lie, I suggest you research them before posting.

(2,035 posts)Without including what this post talks about, let's show the other number:
56% annual inflation; second lowest minimum wage in the continent; Close to 30% scarcity level of products; $4 billion debt with airlines (and the government has the gall to say they're suspending/canceling flights because they're rerouting them to Brazil because of the World Cup); Over 3000 arrests made in protests, of which most are students; 24000 murders a year, with a murder rate of 79 per 100,000 (one of the worst in the WORLD) vs 4.8 in the US. Venezuela is considered by many agencies, including the World Bank, as the WORST country to do business in. Those items tell a lot more about the truth than any piece-of-crap propaganda article written by VenezuelaAnalysis or Eva Golinger. And all of this happened in a country with one of the world's largest oil reserves and with the average oil barrel being sold close to $100 for more than a decade. Had that money been managed well, the level of development the country should have would've been that of Dubai, and yet every day there are more shanty towns and more crime.
