A Fond du Lac man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor in the Central American country of Belize, according to the Department of Justice.
Ronald J. Flath, 72, was sentenced Thursday in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He was also ordered to serve 10 years on supervision once he's released from prison.
Court documents show Flath traveled to Belize in 2006 and molested a minor girl from the country. He was charged in Wisconsin in October of 2010 and arrested several months later by Guatemalan National Civil Police.
Flath was returned to the United States and indicted on March 22, 2011. He entered a guilty plea in May of 2012.
The arrest was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.
