The owner of the controversial Ukrainian political flag is security instructor Alex Silva, 46. The flag is associated with the extreme-right in Ukraine, where Silva has lived since 2014.

In March, he came to Brazil to open a branch of the shooting academy and military tactics where he works in Kiev, the country's capital, and could not leave due to the pandemic.

A supporter of President Jair Bolsonaro, Silva participates in demonstrations, always bearing a flag in the red and black cores used by the legal sector of Pravyi, a paramilitary organization created in 2013 that assumed the political mandate in Ukraine. He says, however, that he is not formally linked to the group.

The flag is one of the elements that started the turmoil among supporters of the president and members of organizations that defend democracy, this Sunday (31), on Avenida Paulista. It was identified as a neo-Nazi symbol, but Silva claims that this is not true.

Another article on what may be the same subject, rambling, has this interesting sentence which I have never heard before:

Glory To Ukraine! Bolsonaro glory! In Brazil are investigating the appearance of a flag of Ukrainian nationalists at a rally in support of President
By Kommersant -02/06/2020

Ukrainian symbols suddenly became a subject for police investigation in Brazil. After Sunday in Sao Paulo there was a big fight between supporters and opponents of President Zaira Bolsonaro, militiamen decided to check, did not provoke her red-and-black flag with Trident, which was brought to the meeting activist Alex Silva. He participated in the fighting in the Donbass, and for a while upon arriving home, decided to support Mr. Bolsonaro at the rally. Interfered with a situation even the Embassy of Ukraine — diplomats don’t like what the Brazilian media call the red-black flag of “neo-Nazi”.”The police will determine whether demonstration of flags, which is also used by neo-Nazis, the impetus for the confrontation between Pro-democracy protesters and supporters Bolsonaro this Sunday on Avenida Paulista in downtown são Paulo,” he told Brazilian portal G1, quoting the Executive Secretary of the military police of the state of são Paulo álvaro Camilo.Brawl on the main street of Sao Paulo started when they both were supporters of the President Bolsonaro and fans of Brazilian football club “Corinthians”, “Palmeiras”, “Santos” and “Sao Paulo”, adhering to left-wing political views. . . .

. . .

yadda yadda yadda yadda ....

Note that in the Brazilian state of paraná is home to about 500 thousand descendants of the Ukrainian immigrants in the late XIX — early XX century.
