Bellevue’s part-time firefighters have waited out months of uncertainty, working irregular shifts without receiving benefits, just for a shot at a full-time job at the department.

Now, after months of political wrangling, Bellevue’s first-ever full-time firefighters are on the job, and they are ready to prove themselves to the city.

“It’s exciting,” said Anthony Rogers, 40, one of the city’s 21 new hires. “It’s a little humbling because we’ve worked so hard.”

“Many of us feel like this is the best job in the world.”
