Pension dispute could send Colorado Springs, PERA to trial in October
By Jakob Rodgers Published: June 26, 2014

Colorado Springs and the Public Employees' Retirement Association could head to trial in October in a high-stakes dispute over pension liabilities.

The city's appeal of a February ruling that sided with PERA has been denied, said Leslie Oliver, a PERA spokeswoman. The ruling sets the stage for a trial to determine how much the city would have to pay the state's retirement fund.

Colorado Springs attorneys declined to comment on the ruling, said Kim Melchor, a city spokeswoman.

The decision offered another twist in the longstanding dispute over whether Colorado Springs could pull 4,000 Memorial Hospital employees out of the state's pension fund without paying PERA anything.
