Scientists: Tests prove fracking to blame for flaming Parker County wells

For the past two years, News 8 has aired a series of stories of flames shooting from water wells in Parker County. Dangerous levels of methane gas somehow found its way into the water supply.

While Barnett Shale gas producers deny any connection to their operations, a pair of scientists are now disputing that. They say test results just released by state regulators provide concrete evidence linking fracking and groundwater contamination.

Parker County resident Steve Lipsky first noticed it in 2010. His well water was becoming contaminated with increasing levels of methane gas. So much so that once he vented his well, natural gas would come streaming out. He illustrates the volume of gas by lighting the vent on fire at night.

Today, the contamination has become so bad, even his well water ignites.

"Oh, it's getting worse,” Lipsky said. “That's what I'm trying to tell you."

Last summer, Lipsky filed a complaint with state oil and gas regulators at the Texas Railroad Commission.

Field agents and technicians came out and conducted tests, not only measuring the amount of gas in his well, but to determine exactly where the gas was coming from. Those tests have now been conducted and last week, the Texas Railroad Commission issued its official findings.

1. When are we going to wake up and realize that solar and wind are the best answers to our energy

needs. We need to move much faster toward solar and wind.

If Germany, with its cold, rainy climate (lived there, don't tell me it isn't cold and cloudy) can invest in solar energy and use it successfully, we certainly can. We have vast deserts for solar. We have large cities (lots of roof space) in the deserts (think of Las Vegas, Phoenix and Tucson, Az., New Mexico, Texas and California to say nothing of parts of Utah).

And when it comes to wind, we haven't begun to exploit our resources. Wind may be loud and may kill birds, but it doesn't set our water on fire.

I love my gas stove, but if it is a choice between safe water and fewer earthquakes on the one hand and on the other an electric stove, I would choose the electric stove.

4. Not until the gas and oil companies make bigger profits from renewables.

Unless that day comes America will not give into solar and wind energy.
Even if it becomes cheaper than fossil fuels, until the money goes into the huge corporate pockets, it will continue to be marginalized.

What's best for the country and our children's futures is not a concern. What increases the 1% pockets today is the only thing that will decide the future.

3. Breathing methane is associated with raised IQs, enhanced memory and increased earning power

Breathing and ingesting methane is good for you.

Also:

Extreme attractiveness to the opposite sex, happier pets, better-tasting fruits and vegetables,
improved TV and radio reception, protection from Fukushima radiation,
expanded math and science aptitude, erections lasting 4 hours or more (call your Doctor if this is a problem),
percentage-busting luck at Los vegas, ability to eat fattening foods without gaining weight,
and the ability to fully understand James Joyce.

All you hippy-marxists want to put in (baby voice) solar and wind power!

But you will lose the many benefits of methane, and destroy the economy.

But you hippy-fools don't care, do you?

You just want to destroy the world for fun, and Marx.

Dear Barnett Shale:

I am available to shill for you anytime you want.

This is an example of my work.

I could turn out reams of this crap all day and night,
for the right deal.

I can help you!

I promise, every dollar you pay me will me money well-spent.

Let's talk turkey.

Call me.

That is horrifying. When we contaminate the water, life is over.
