Anadarko: 1,000 Eagle Ford wells and counting
Posted on June 5, 2014 | By Jennifer Hiller

The Woodlands-based Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has drilled more than 1,000 Eagle Ford Shale wells so far – and it’s averaging bringing one new well online every day.

Chuck Meloy, Anadarko’s executive vice president of U.S. onshore exploration and production, said the company is running 10 drilling rigs in South Texas and plans 400 wells this year.

Meloy spoke at the UBS Global Oil and Gas Conference in Austin recently. Here are some of the highlights of the Eagle Ford acreage, which Meloy calls a “marquee asset”:

* Anadarko is drilling fast. Really fast. “We started out here, and wells have taken north of 30 days, and now we are drilling wells or record wells sub-five days, and to think about drilling something into the 14,000, 15,000 foot range in five days is just — it’s incredible,” Meloy said.
* The company’s acreage is mostly in Dimmit County, the volatile oil window of the field. Anadarko is producing between 45 and 55 degree gravity crude there.
* Its estimated ultimate recovery per well is between 550,000 and 600,000 barrels of oil equivalent.
