This school board member previously tried to ban another textbook entitled "Globalization and Diversity."

There was an attempt by another school board member in this school district to ban the reading of the book "Nickle and Dimed." That is a popular book about a well-educated upper middle class woman who tried to live on her earnings as a waitress in three different towns. They claimed that the book was an attack on the capitalist system.

The bottom of the article, they are talking about the budget and this is what stood out: "...which means a tax bill on a property assessed at $100,000 of about $5,100."

Can that be right for school taxes to be over 1/20 of the total value of the house? My home here in Victoria is assessed at $430k and my total tax bill, including school is just over $3k a year.
