EU mulling ban on (Israeli) settlement products

Will the boycott on settlement products expand from (South) Africa to EU? The EU is considering an import ban on settlement products, an official Greek representative said on Friday, when asked about his country's stance on the issue.

The Greek diplomat noted that the EU's committees are currently deliberating on the issue of settlement products and are expected to present their conclusions to the EU Executive Commission for is decision on the matter.

According to the diplomat, the EU talks include the option of marking all products that originate from any territory beyond the 1967 borders, as well as the option of banning imports completely
...snip...

The Greek diplomat went on to add that relations between Israel and Greece have been growing closer over the past two years, which is why Greece is one of the only countries that can tell Netanyahu the truth.

South Africa has not boycotted products from the settlement it simply requires them to labeled as being from West Bank settlements rather than Israel

1. People need to note that this is much narrower than the BDS movement

First because it only boycotts goods from the settlements. Second because the boycott exists based on the idea that the settlements only are illegitimate. That it, it's not a boycott aimed at enforcing the Right of Return, which is what BDS is about. The only question I have is whether this boycott will do any good, or whether it will only hurt Palestinians who work on these projects? But it isn't morally objectionable the way BDS is.

they are simply accurately labeled as to their origins, my guess is that the EU if it adopts this will do so in the same manner as South Africa

but thank you for your concern for Palestinian workers, however in the case of labeling that could actually prove to be a boon as those sympathetic to the settlement project can steer their purchases towards those goods

If all the EU does is label, then the question still matters. Will it do any good?

I myself would prefer the labeling route which is also called a boycott that in and of itself is telling, as to whether or not it will do any good I would suppose that would depend on how you define 'good' in this instance
