Israeli Teenagers Said to Be Kidnapped in West Bank

JERUSALEM — Three Israeli teenagers were missing in the West Bank and were presumed to have been kidnapped, Israeli military officials said on Friday. The episode tested Israel’s already strained ties with the Palestinians and prompted the involvement of the State Department amid reports that one of the youngsters held United States citizenship.

Secretary of State John Kerry called President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. A State Department official said, “We are working the issue as hard as we can.”

Mr. Netanyahu said he held Mr. Abbas responsible for the well-being of the missing teenage boys, who were studying at a religious high school and seminary in the West Bank.

You could see it as a tacit admission by Netanyahu that the PA would be much better equipped to police Hebron than the Israelis would be, which is probably correct.

From Richard Silverstein's blog:-

Several months ago, the IDF executed three members of the Palestinian Islamist group in a cave in the South Hebron Hills. The kidnapping is supposedly avenging the killings. Though the army later claimed the militants had been found with weapons and bombs and were prepared for a terror attack, I never saw any evidence of this. The IDF regularly uses these sorts of unsupported charges to obscure outright assassinations in cold blood. We know this in cases where there were witnesses or video. In this case, neither were available. So given the IDF’s brazen track record for lying, I’m not prepared to accept its version of the killings.

We know that one of the Israeli victims used his cell phone to call 911 the night of the kidnapping. But he could not speak and, unfortunately, the Israeli police, never known for their competence or diligence, did not start a search until the following morning after the family reported the disappearance.

Hebron is closed off as is Gaza and no Palestinian laborer will allowed to enter a settlement the last one is because it is believed it will pressure Abbas to 'stop protecting the perpetrators' this is in spite of the fact that the PA is helping IDF in the search

it seems so far Netanyahu has used this for political posturing and to to prove himself by blaming all Palestinians the unity government and of course ignoring that Israeli security knew for 7 hours about the missing boys before doing anything and if reports of ISIL being the perpetrators are true, it represents a major SNAFU in Israeli intelligence

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel said on Sunday that Hamas militants had abducted three Israeli teenagers in the occupied West Bank, warning of "serious consequences" as it pressed on with a search and detained dozens of Palestinians.

The two 16-year-olds and a third man aged 19, seminary students in a Jewish settlement bloc, disappeared on Thursday.

"These teenagers were kidnapped and the kidnapping was carried out by Hamas members," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters, referring to the Palestinian Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip.
