Missing People: The Pain of Waiting

Imagine sweating through sleepless nights never knowing if your child would ever return home.

The recent kidnapping of three teenagers in Israel by terrorists has shaken the Jewish world. The international campaign slogan, "Bring Back our Boys" was modeled after the "Bring Back our Girls" campaign that was popularized following the abduction of 250 school girls by Islamic militants in Nigeria. Unfortunately, in both Israel and Nigeria, the children remain missing.

Every tragedy disturbs us and disrupts order in our lives, but when innocent people go missing the pain runs deeper. Where have they gone? Are they okay? Who is responsible? What have these innocent children done to deserve this? What can we do to get them back? We are left helpless with innumerable questions and desire for action but no sure remedy.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The major Israeli military incursion in the West Bank will come to an end in a few days, a high-ranking Israeli military officer said Monday.

Speaking to the Hebrew-language news site Walla, the officer highlighted that after 11 days, the military operation across the West Bank, with a focus on Hebron district, has failed to find a clue leading to the three teenage settlers believed to have been kidnapped in the southern West Bank.

The officer pointed out that overnight detention raids would not stop, although the major incursion would come to an end. He added that the operation started against what he called “terrorist infrastructure” of Hamas immediately after the Israeli political echelon announced that Hamas was behind the kidnapping.

After 11 days, added the top Israeli officer, the military operation can’t continue in the same pattern especially after the Israeli forces have almost completed their "bank of targets."

Also the pain of waiting for the 5 slain Palestinians this time around will not end for a long time. Perhaps it would be better to end the occupation instead of Israel creating a situation where hostility is recurrent.
