I want to ask the person (friend of a friend) if it is mocking, or a statement of support from the RKBA community, but I'm afraid to...

They want to turn any popular meme into their own cause de celebre. I've seen it with the equals sign with the top bar blue, bottom bar pink, for 'traditional marriage'. Fetuses in the background for 'equal protection for unborn children'. The guns in place of the equals sign for the 2nd amendment.

That's all it is. I take it as a bankruptcy of ideas, so they ape whoever seems to be doing something meaningful and popular, both to bolster their own position, and in a way to mockingly tear down something good.

I get the connotation, as they appear in the template of 'The Odd Couple', but Sesame Street has addressed this in that both characters are themselves children, so the question of their sexual identity isn't appropriate, and they are not trying to make a statement using the two characters in that manner.

"they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation." I always assumed Miss Piggy and Kermit had a thing going. The show implies as much. So those two puppets appear to have a sexual orientation.
