Students Wear Rainbow Socks to Support Gay Rights
June 4, 2014
By RHEANA MURRAY

A row of rainbow socks peeking out from graduation gowns was a show of support for gay rights at one school’s commencement ceremony over the weekend.

About half of the students graduating from Vanier Catholic Secondary School in northern Canada on Saturday wore the bright, striped stocks in honor of their school’s newly formed gay-straight alliance, CBC reported.

Student Liam Finnegan, who is gay, said his friend Kate Power organized the sock show.

“She wanted to make a statement saying, ‘We’re not a homophobic school’ because a lot of people have that perception, so it was a really cool experience to see that,” he told CBC.
