Tomato helps heal heart disease - research

Tomato effects on narrowed blood vessels

A daily dose of tomato could significantly improve the functioning of blood vessels in patients with heart disease, research suggests.

...

Participants in the study were given a pill containing a supplement called Ateronon that contains seven milligrams of the tomato ingredient lycopene. Lycopene is 10 times more potent than vitamin E and previous research showed its potency appears to be enhanced when it is consumed pureed, in ketchup or in the presence of olive oil.

...

Of 36 patients with heart disease, those taking the pill every day for two months saw their blood vessels widen by 53 per cent. This was due to improved functioning of the endothelium, the inner wall cell lining of blood vessels, scientists believe.

Sounds pretty good to me...

A slice of French bread, covered in olive oil, sliced garlic, slice of a hard cheese, broiled until cheese is melted and very lightly browned. Top it all off with a slice of raw tomato.

Ok I gotta go make breakfast now.

My favorite is Welsh Rarebit, but it sounds like your version is healthier. Welsh Rarebit is toast, served with slices of tomato, drizzled with cheese sauce (cheese, flour, worchestershire and dijon mustard).

The only thing is finding tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes. Now they're starting to come in, but most of the time they're difficult to find.

You mean all these years I've been avoiding tomatos because of this film has been a false flag as Alex would say:

I like tomato juice. But it's hard to find a brand that doesn't have so much OTHER stuff in it that it makes the benefits of the tomato insignificant.

One of these days, I want the have the time and opportunity to learn to make my own!

I'd add some salt too.

I haven't bought juice in a can or bottle in years, because even "100% Juice", isn't.

made quite a bit of tomato juice last year. We had an abundance of cherry tomatoes and they worked great for this.

We can ours and it takes some time but definitely not hard to do.
