curious about treatment for lead poisoning.

the news from flint has me wondering- what treatments are available for those w high lead levels? anything? anything effective?
i know that chelation is used. is it effective? iirc, this is one of those treatments that some folks think is a one-size-fits-all treatment for a host of ailments for which there is not evidence.

what is the current state of the art here?

back in the late 90's. Had foolishly heat stripped my 1950's house in '92 w/o wearing proper protections for lead paint. Almost immediately began to have Autoimmune symptoms, body pain, exhaustion, hair loss, etc. Eventually had my hair and blood tested after researching at the library - pre Internet - and was in the 97th percentile for lead and was elevated for mercury. Had all my amalgam fillings removed and began IV treatment in 2000. This treatment was controversial back then and not approved by the FDA, IIRC. It helped tremendously. Wish I'd had the funds to keep going, as I still have elevated lead in recent blood testing and am losing hair again.

There are lots of charlatans out there, for sure, but now that EDTA Chelation is approved by the FDA, it should be covered by insurance/Medicare and available via western med, shouldn't it? It's important that anyone going through this also receives IV vitamin replacement a week or so after the EDTA, as it will remove a lot of the good with the bad. It's well known that us Boomers are the most highly toxic generation ever, but FME, western med has been stifled by Big Pharma, who makes lots of $ treating symptoms vs curing chronic illness and chelation isn't covered by Medicare as far as I know. They just want us to die.

My experience with this was a real eye opener. I was tested for every type of AutoImmune Disease, was negative for all. Still, the head of Rheumatology prescribed steroids and Methotrexate in '98 and told me if I didn't take it I would be disabled in a few years. Have since had my genetics tested, as have many others in my large family, in the past few years. If I'd taken Methotrexate, I could be blind now because of my genetic mutations and one of my Nieces is blind now. Since then I've found that my doc, Dr. Deodhar, took in lots of $ from drug companies, and you can see if yours does too here:

Heard some amazing stories while I was in the IV room. Most memorable was a woman with a similar history to mine, who woke up one morning and couldn't speak. Her Dr's could find no reason for it (you have lots of time to chat while you're hooked up to an IV). She'd finally listened to an informed friend and was tested. Turned out she was extremely high in mercury, (via dental fillings) which is treated with DMSO IV's. Lead is stored in the blood, hair, bones and starts to come out immediately with EDTA. Mercury is very different, is stored in the brain and tends to clump and gather during treatment and once it reaches a certain point, the brain/body dumps it all at once, which can be very dramatic. She woke up one morning and said she could literally feel the mercury leaving, at which time she got her voice back.

We all need to be our own advocate. Genetic testing is routinely done in many countries who have socialized med., in order to guide treatment. This is long overdue in the US, but Big Pharma rules here.

Living on SS/Medicare now, which is a joke, as none of the tests are covered. Spent 30 years as a Caterer in the Film Ind., regularly working 18 hr. days and worked up until 12/18/14 when things shut down for the Holidays. Had a flu shot 1/7/15 and had an immediate reaction of coughing and violent vomiting that is still occurring, have been disabled and forced to retire since then. Was always referred to as the "Energizer Bunny" by my peeps. Am now DX w/Barre Lieou and Chiari1, which Medicare doesn't cover and am doing better. Good luck to the KIDS and ADULTS in Flint who need treatment, they're gonna need it. Yet another reason for "Medicare for all" - go Bernie!

Just my 2 cents,
