Florida governor complains U.S. not doing enough to fight Zika
By Julie Steenhuysen and Zachary Fagenson | CHICAGO/MIAMI
Florida Governor Rick Scott said on Wednesday the federal government had so far not delivered all the Zika antibody tests and laboratory support he had requested as the state battles the spread of the virus.
The complaint came as Zika cases mounted in some of the state's most popular tourist destinations and some residents pushed for more information.
On Wednesday, the Florida Department of Health reported a second non-travel related case of Zika in Palm Beach County, bringing the state's total to 43.

In a teleconference on Wednesday, Scott made a plea for more support in fighting Zika, complaining that "Congress and the White House have not been good partners."
Scott said he asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 5,000 Zika antibody tests last week, but so far had only received less than 1,200. He had also asked for additional lab support personnel to speed testing.

(13,086 posts)In Zika fight, Scott haunted by public health cuts, rejection of Medicaid expansion
Critics says cuts impacted health infrastructure
By CHRISTINE SEXTON and MARC CAPUTO 08/09/16 05:28 AM EDT
TALLAHASSEE Fighting the Zika virus has become a top priority for Gov. Rick Scott, but the states refusal to expand Medicaid coupled with his record of cutting money for county health departments, health clinics and programs for special-needs Floridians has started to complicate his message that the federal government is failing the state in addressing the potential crisis.
Scott and his office have steadfastly rejected criticism that any of the cuts have reduced Floridas front-line capacity to manage the challenges of the fast-spreading virus, saying his budget cuts have only made the state more efficient.
