Movie making irony? Little known fact?

We're watching West Side Story for perhaps the hundred and twentieth time. Maybe the hundred and fortieth?

Anyway, when they were making the movie in 1960, while most of the movie was shot on sound stages, they were scouting for locations for the actual outdoor scenes. Turns out there was a perfect neighborhood for one of the scenes that had already seen the residents relocated in preparation for demolition of the buildings on the site. The site was on New York's West 68th Street, just off Broadway.

After filming, demolition was completed. On the site today stands . . . Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

How fitting.
