Dick Cavett's Watergate

Shortly after Nixon's 2nd inauguration up to his resignation, I was in a prolonged and meandering process of moving my life from east to west, from Florida to, eventually, Hawai'i. I wasn't able to watch too much of the Watergate hearings, and I was lucky to read a newspaper maybe once or twice a week. I remember being outraged by various news stories about the Nixon administration's idiocy, but not much more. My partner and I were at her brother's house in Ohio when Nixon's resignation was announced, and I do remember cheering loudly and being promptly silenced by the withering glare of my partner's brother, a Nixon supporter. When I have time now, I try to catch up on what I missed with Watergate.

I just discovered on Amazon Prime, Dick Cavett's Watergate (2014, PBS). I wasn't aware at the time the extent to which Cavett had covered Watergate. I'm sure many of you know that Cavett aired one of his talk show episodes from the Watergate hearing room, but I never did. This is a great fifty-five minutes of television, free for Prime members. Amazon also has All The President's Men available free in Prime along with some other Cavett specials on Vietnam, the draft, Bill Clinton, and JFK/LBJ, although I haven't watched those yet.

From the Amazon synopsis:

Dick Cavett's Watergate: Dick Cavett's Watergate offers a unique opportunity to mark the 40th anniversary of a defining moment in American history. From 1972 to 1974 the Watergate scandal unfolded on The Dick Cavett Show, as Cavett interviewed nearly every major Watergate figure, even non-political guests expressed their opinions. Dick Cavett's Watergate documents the scandal in the words of the people who lived it.
