His third child (he has 5 year old twins) is scheduled to be born on Monday, so next year we will have a double celebration!

It's left over blackened steak, but I'm going to get it sliced as thin as possible and toss it into the simmered beef broth, sour cream, sauteed onion and mushroom base.

I bought a loaf of test organic buttermilk from Franz, but it's just too sweet for toast or sandwiches. it'll fry up nicely tho. and I'm just not in the mood to cook.

...and applesauce from the freezer. Only three quarts of applesauce left from last summer's farmers market.

Got just the meal I wanted for my birthday, even if I did have to make it myself.

Birthday Luncheon

Potted Shrimp and Toasted Baguette

Duck Glazed with Honey and Herbs de Provence
Roasted Bliss and Yukon Potatoes w/Shallot
Brussels Sprouts

Salad of Romaine, Orange, Fennel, Kalamata Olives and Red Pepper
w/Citrus Vinaigrette

Cassata Siciliana (Orange pound cake filled with ricotta laced with Countreau and stuffed with toasted almonds, microplaned orange peel, and vanilla sugar. Each of the four layers of the cake is painted with Cointreau before filling then wrapped tightly and chilled overnight before frosting with chocolate-mocha truffle ganache. I also melted some orange flavored chocolate into the ganache. Hey! It's my birthday!

My honey had a hankerin' for applesauce last night but all we had a was a big jar of applesauce. I told him I'd eat some if he opened it. So I built a meal around it.
