what's for dinner - sunday, june 8th

i just put up a loaf of bread and that's as far as i've gotten. if we're in the mood, it may be a chicken curry soup thing. i also haven't made a red sauce in a long time and that's starting to sound appetizing.

it's cool today, so i can run the oven and stove top without any discomfort.

happy sunday!

Housemate's stomach is acting up, so our prior plans are on hold or probably scrapped, may turn into another scrounge night.

May still do that later. Out for walk this afternoon though and wanted Chinese w/ out the $ take out tag.

Lol, don't tell my cousin or niece though. The bao is Cantonese. They are Mandarin. A mild cultural tug of war there.

4. arugula salad and cheese-basil sausage sammiches

It's casual tonight as I have been working in my garden and I am tired. I already did the prep for this meal, which I have made before and which I am repeating because it is a fabulous combination.

The arugula salad has roasted pumpkin in it. It was basted with butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. They were slow-roasted, so they caramelized. I used the arugula rustica from my garden that is so prevalent at this time of year. The dressing is made with cider vinegar, olive oil and a little red wine vinegar.

The cheese-basil sausage is slow cooked in a skillet on the range on very low. This gives it a nice brown, crisp outside. And of course onion rolls, my favorite roll.

Thanks for starting the thread, fizzgig. I came here earlier and was going to start it myself but fell asleep in the process, right here in my chair. Hard physical labor does that to me. I guess you could call me a classroom wimp.

Shredded chicken thighs, sweet potato, chickpeas, carrots, bell pepper, onion and garlic. I'm going to cook the veggies in a bit of coconut milk and veggie broth and dump in some trader joe's curry sauce. I'll serve it over rice with the bread on the side.

Pot roast with potatoes, carrots, onion, celery
Fresh baked biscuits

I sat out in the gazebo reading and catching the occasional whiff; could scarcely contain myself.
