What's for Dinner, Sat., June 14, 2014

I'm dining out twice today, which I consider a just reward for having endured two complete days of household repairs and improvements this week. Lots of things fixed, and that feels great!

First is our union meeting, which is a buffet. I know some of what's being served, since I helped with the menu: chicken with sundried tomatoes, shitakes, and smoked ham in marsala sauce and beef in peppercorn sauce are two that come to mind.

Later in the day, I pick up the RG who is coming in from TX and we're going to dinner with a friend at our favorite Portuguese restaurant. I'm thinking calamari.

Galileo, hope your ovens are fixed, yes?

and i'm thinking pasta salad and broccoli slaw on the side.

this, of course, all depends on me not being a lazy bastard today.

using the leftovers from a red sauce I made last night. I'll add provolone cheese as well.

I'll save the leftover Italian sausage for lunch this week.

Edit: Forgot to answer Cher - The ovens are not fixed yet. The repair folks come back this Monday morning. Hopefully, by the time I get home from work, they will be fixed and ready to go. <crosses fingers>

....zucchini pan fried.

And lots of fruit. Tomorrow is farmers market and I intend to load up the fridge on blackberries, raspberries, and nectarines.

That, and scalloped potatoes.

There's something awesome about spuds and sauces that I truly adore.

Just ask my waistline...

I don't eat potatoes very often, maybe a couple of times a week. I love them, though.

Ribeye, Cambozola, grilled onions and serranos on a fresh hot crusty demibaguette.

And it was finger licking good.

strip steaks and green beans.

But I threw an eggplant on the grill to char, and after dinner I made baba ghannouj for the first time ever. I'm excited about that, I love the stuff but never tried to make it til now.
