Thanks for this.

(35,342 posts)On this low-carb diet, is that there are lots of ways to cut down on the bread and grains, from purchasing low-carb breads and tortillas to substitutes for crust like this one and also things like using spaghetti squash for pasta.
With a good sauce and a nice quality parmesan, that is a totally satisfying dish.
However, the cauliflower rice wasn't one of them. I had to make that into something else, which was an Indian side dish with cream and cashews.

It was excellent.
And the sides were scrumptious!

(60,010 posts)We HAD planned on country style pork ribs on the grill, maybe potato wedges.
Then a friend dropped by, with goodies from her acre plus garden, and a true Alabama dinner menu was born..
fresh heirloom corn on the cob, still warm to the touch.
giant ripe red heirloom tomatoes
big zucchinis ( my favourite stir fry veggie)
And local watermelon for dessert.
it is hot and muggy outside, can anything be more perfect?

(35,342 posts)I like to read the posts of our southern DU-ers because it's only a matter of time before we up north get to enjoy what you're having now.
An acre+ is a good-sized garden! Lucky you for having such a generous friend--but I'll bet she enjoyed the ribs!

(2,016 posts)Here in the high desert, it's hard to grow anything that is not 'heat friendly'. OK, the hot pepper family works well...but...
But heirloom tomatoes? We're screwed. My older sis lives in South Carolina, and she's got more home-grown veggies to feed us all into doomsday and beyond. Sure, it's hot...but it's humid enough that the leaves just soak up all that moisture, without burning from the intense sun.
Would I live in SC? Nah... too humid... But would I plant a garden there? Absolutely!
Fortunately, my sis sends me canned goodies from her garden - my fave is her jalapeno jelly.
Everything is local... yes?

Limeade, radishes, and home made tortilla chips for crunch factor.
