It was all good except for the left turn with the gravy...

Happy After Thanksgiving!

We had all the family favorites with a 20 pound turkey and the prep was pretty smooth. My husband was in charge of the turkey and gravy. He brined the bird and used Alton Brown's method for cooking.

He made two gravies last year, one with giblets and one without. They were DEE-licious! But for some reason this year, he had no memory of making the gravy last year. SO when it came time to make the gravy, he went into a trance. He decided he should use ONLY the fat from the drippings plus red wine. (I like the method of making a roux, adding drippings/seasonings and keeping it simple.) He made a roux using the fat and flour and added the wine. It never thickened and it was a weird grayish pink.

but as usual with me it was a bit thin. I don't like thick gravy that needs a butter knife to spread it around so I always sabotage myself and don't make it thick enough.

oh well I like it so the rest of the gang can make do or make their own. I am already making candied yams and stuffing for them that I don't eat.
