What's for Dinner, Fri., Aug. 26, 2016

We’re going out for dinner and I already know what I want. We go to this restaurant a lot, as it has a beautiful skyline view of NYC. It is situated on a cliff and is surrounded by forest on three sides, the cliff on the other.

First we’re ordering the cold seafood platter, which is served on ice. It has 3 large shrimp, 3 oysters, and 3 crab legs. The seafood sauce is so good because they shred raw horseradish in it.

After that, I’m ordering flank steak with mushrooms. It also comes with potatoes and other vegetables like asparagus.

For dessert, I’m getting this dessert that looks like a sailboat! On one side is pink peppercorn gelato surrounded by blackberries. The blackberries are actually grown by the restaurant and are way tastier than anything one might get at the store. On the other side of the “sailboat” is chocolate pudding topped with minced mango. The chocolate “sail” is some sort of wafer-type cookie. Anyway, it’s delicious. I had it before I went on vacation and want to have it again.

I'm just back from a trip to Western North Carolina. My friend sent me home with homemade chicken/rice soup, which is just what I need as I am battling sinus/allergy issues. Apples are coming to market in the NC and GA mountains, but we're also still getting great (maybe the best) peaches of the summer. I stopped at the farmer's market in Asheville and got a couple bags with several varieties, as well as SC peaches. Then I stopped at an apple house in N. GA and got a couple bags of their local apples and peaches. So far, I think the GA August Flame peaches and Jonagold apples are tops. Hope to make some apple sauce this weekend and put some of those peaches in the freezer.
