Well, if you can find peaches that weren't picked green and rock hard, sprayed with ethylene to make them look ripe, but which lack both the flavor and sugars of truly ripe peaches. Agribusiness has totally ruined them along with strawberries.

If you want peaches that still taste like peaches, you pretty much need to get them from a grower or get them canned.

Actually, more like decades ago. They are invariably mealy, not a fresh texture at all. Sigh. Every few years I'll buy a peach or two in the hopes that somehow they've improved, but nope. They are all always inedible. Perhaps I should try a farmer's market in the hopes of getting decent peaches.

But contaminated with salmonella is a worse problem than crappy texture and taste.
