Kaseschnitte Mit Ei

A Swiss treat

Two slices of Tuscan bread or sourdough

Cut out circles in the middle of each slice with biscuit cutter or a glass.

Melt butter in skillet. I prefer cast iron.

Lay bread in center and crack an egg into the hole. Sprinkle a little Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper over egg. Cook 2-3 minutes until solidified.

Turn over and lay one slice Swiss cheese that's been trimmed to dimensions of bread over egg and bread.

Cover with pot lid to let cheese soften and melt.

Remove from skillet and put on a plate.

Essen gut!

If you'd like, put one slice of thinly sliced imported ham over bread/egg and then add the Swiss

BTW, you've seen this before: Rose cooking breakfast in Moonstruck.
