Yes I've become the neighborhood cat lady & a new feral female. 😿😭

I put out dry food for the 2 regular ferals, BigBoy, likely the girlz father, he looks like Dixie and a raggy ginger boy.

In the quiet of last night, an in heat feral female was wailing away near my porch.
More feral kittens in ~2months.😭

And most areas have a TNR program with low cost spaying and neutering.

After several hurricanes (during which people let their un-fixed cats out) the feral cat population in my neighborhood exploded. Since then I have trapped about 20 cats and had them all fixed.

Six of them stayed and are now pets. They still live outside, but the same six are fed every morning and evening. The youngest is now about 6 or 7 and they all pretty much stay on my property now.

And the good news: NO MORE KITTENS.

I had to adjust my Blink camera because the cats were setting it off, ALL NIGHT LONG, so now I'm not sure how many are roaming the yard, at night. I did see the pretty grey and white one, this morning. I keep listening for kitty meows but I think their 'den' area is in my neighbor's yard.

Abortion. A pregnant feline is spayed and the tube of fetuses removed. If you live in an area where there are plenty of responsible homes for kittens, and you can insure that the kittens will be fixed, vaccinated, and dewormed, you may not have to go the abortion route. The pregnant feline must absolutely be tested for feline leukemia.because, if positive, her kittens will be born with it and have a longevity of about 2 years max. If the pregnant cat appears fully grown and healthy, but tests positive, she probably acquired the virus after birth and she can live longer than kittens born with it.

Great post. The only thing I would add is that pregnancy is very hard on feral females.

Thanks for being an informed cat person!

We have TNR'd at least 2 dozen ferals in my neighborhood. I still have 5-6 left to trap and get fixed. But in the mean time, I feed all these ferals and have adopted a few kittens. Good luck!

See my signature line to donate to this wonderful organization.

I read the title and thought you had gone feral...I was thinking of enticements to draw you in and then read your post. Another dream shattered...
