Deputies say man accidentally shoots and kills friend

A man shot and killed his best friend, his roommate, by accident. It happened Saturday night around 8:00 in Bradenton off 50th Avenue West and 30th Street West.

Manatee County deputies said 22-year-old Kyle Guessford was showing off his new flashlight gun mount to his friends at his apartment. As he went to turn on the flashlight, the gun discharged and shot his roommate in the head, 22-year-old Austin Brunson.

"He was a good kid, we always cooked and brought food over there, they were both good guys, food friends," said their neighbor and friend, Walter Mays Junior. "Austin loved playing guitar, he had ten guitars sitting in their living room."

"They know better than to have a loaded gun in the house," said Mays. "My heart goes out to their families, they all seemed close. I feel so sorry for their parents. This was horrible. This was a tragic accident."

This was negligent homicide. There are no such fucking thing as "accidents" with guns. People pull the triggers and they fire. That is how they are designed. Put your stupid hand near the trigger while stupidly pointing your stupidly loaded weapon at your stupid ( for letting you do it) friends and watch what happens.

I thought guns didn't kill people, people killed people using guns?

Is this a documented case of a 'gun killing a person', or did Guessford actually shoot his friend?

Sounds like negligent homicide or involuntary manslaughter or whatever the local wording of charges are.

Even if there was no ill intent, pointing a pistol at another is at a minimum "reckless endangerment" or whatever the local equivalent would be. In my state that would result in a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter based on the underlying misdemeanor.

would actually charge people in these 'accidents' maybe they would be more careful where they point the darn things. Open carry idiots have shown up in our area now. What if one of these idiots has an 'accident' while shopping? I want to know he will face charges if he drops his gun while shopping and kills me.

I have no problem with holding an individual accountable for their direct actions; if there were more prosecutions for negligent behavior we might see more caution exhibited by firearm owners.

Not even revolvers. Something has to get inside the trigger guard, and pull the trigger.

In this case, a very, very stupid and reckless human did it.

for "the gun worked as designed when the idiot holding the gun pulled the trigger at a time when he did not plan to". As you have summarized, Guessford actually shoot his friend apparently unintentionally.

Violate one of the Four Rules and you will scare folks.
Violate two or more of the Four Rules and someone will probably die.

and loads of fun for everyone....at 29 ounces unloaded it's gonna soak up recoil to where my daughter and wife will like to shoot it on range outtings. It will also give us another great HD pistol with a 19+1 capacity of 9mm. Best of all the slide inside the rails is supposed to mean better accuracy so it should put down plates like a champ.

After this one I'll start up the hunt for a 40 to replace the one I traded several months ago. Had a guy offer to trade his p345 45 for my SR45 on facebook yesterday but being 2.5 hours away I turned him down. I'll keep watching the FB gun groups for a nice used fullsized 40, one may turn up sooner than later.

But to answer your question - it's more about what I don't do than what I do to keep them safe. I don't encourage them to live in fear of their fellow humans. I don't encourage them to pollute society with more and more guns, or pollute the planet they inhabit by senselessly driving around on ATV's in the name of "family fun".

If so, well played. Not many can keep sock puppets so distinct for so long:

However, you'll need to work on the "self-righteously judgemental" part-
you're nowhere near the level of the Greatest Legal Mind Of Upper Canada
or some of the more prolix posters at Gun Control Reform Activism.

As for getting a plurality of voters to see things your way? That's kind of
a lost cause, as those you lot fear and/or like to insult tend to vote at
a far higher rate than your sort does...

Your charm is endless.
Nice of you to jump in to defend our happy friend who thinks buying more and more guns and giving them to children is the answer to society's woes. He also thinks giving them ATV's to run around on is healthy.
Both guns and ATV's have a valid and useful place in this world, btw. I have nothing against either, just parents who treat them as toys and all part of "family fun".

I have no interest in getting a plurality of voters to see things my way. I just point out stupid when I see it.
