##Duplicate Posts 2: Electric Bugaloo (Now with a poll!)##

This discussion thread is pinned.

Once again the discussion of duplicates has come up. However, since the Admins have finally crawled out of the hot tub and gotten us a polling feature, I'd like to see if we can some to an agreement as a Group what we want to do with them.

I've checked out the previous discussion on this from March and I've condensed the ideas expressed in the poll.

The poll will run for a week, then we'll discuss the results and see if we need a run-off vote or something.

Note: option #2 doesn't necessarily have to be done by a Host, but could be done by anybody who notices.

For those of you looking for a different sort of poll...

...to punish anyone. From my POV if I wrote a post on a topic, which another poster subsequently duplicated, I would give that person the BOTD that the duplication was unintentional. I may also consider deleting my own if the dupe made a better point, made the same point but more effectively or changed my own mind on the topic.

I suppose I am really voting for the "do nothing" option but sometimes duplicates go on without the knowledge of at least one of the authors and, in that time, attract a number of sometimes sincere replies. If I were the OP, I might edit the post leaving intact its original text but appending my new outlook. But the sooner I found out the better I'd feel about it.

ETA: Changed my vote to do nothing.

I'm not reading every thread or board to see if there is a duplicate. You can. That's not laziness. That's a waste of time.

Big freaking deal that it's posted twice. As for 'punishment'......no one is being punished...what a joke.

Is it possible to use only RKBA posters in the jury decisions around here?

I've noticed lots of hidden posts that have no reason to be judged by anyone outside of the group. We know how business is conducted outsiders have no idea, they run on pure antigun emotion slapping down the few true progressives we have just because they don't approve of the 2A. The jury system is a real shit bucket and ends up with a knee jerk decision process from what I can tell. How many jurors actually go and read any of the posts before or after the "offending" post? None? They look and say Ohhhhhhhh pro2A toter, hide, hide yes I'm sure....and that's it.

People are getting infractions here not because they say something offensive but because they're on the wrong side of an issue.

The jury system is a great way to mute debate.....if that's the intention it's working great in our group.

Maybe people should have the ability to opt out of jury alerts for forum they don't like.

Although I don't know why people have a hard time adjudicating a Gungeon "fuck you" from a GD "fuck you"

because a gungeon FU is assumed to be coming from a rightwing troll, I mean after all who else would support the 2A but baser, gunner, toter, that insists on dragging society back in time 40 years.

A true progressive, Progressive, Democrat, or democrat knows the difference after all.

Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: Fucking hell! First H and M, now back to the goddam gungeon. Jesus, why don't you fucks just all get together with your guns, I'll lock the door, and let nature take its course. Whoever walks out at the end of the year will be right. But he can't have any more guns. Don't just stop with hiding this post, though, let's just hide the whole fecking forum.

With attitude how can they be impartial?

One of the jurors admitted it was bad but since it was directed at a member he/she didn't like, the juror voted to leave it.

The majority are for posts in GD. The next is H&M which is now Meta followed by a smattering spread out amongst several groups.

Edit: Looking at your own profile, you've had just one post hidden in the past 90 days. I wouldn't say that any discussion you've been involved in has thus been muted.

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: One of your posts has been hidden by a DU Jury

At Tue Jun 12, 2012, 06:16 PM, an alert was sent on the following post:

No wonder you defend holder and fast and furious.
.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1172&pid=43629

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Further evidence how many regulars in the Gungeon (beevul, this time) actually hate Democrats and the Democratic Party when it gets right down to it.

Eric Holder is a Democrat, in fact he is the Attorney General appointed by President Obama. This post should be deleted and this Right Wing Gun Fanatic should be banned. TOS is checked.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Tue Jun 12, 2012, 06:27 PM, and voted 4-2 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I see no TOS violation, nor any evidence that the poster in question hates the Democratic Party. Just because Holder is a Democrat does not mean that he isn't open to valid criticism.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: Breitbart propaganda piece
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: the person quoted Holder as saying something tat I do not believe he said.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given

And when asked, politely I might add, to self delete said posts will reply, also quite politely "No".

According to the poll at the top of the page would seem that a solution to this problem is at hand.

It would seem that the Host has been given, by 53% of the vote, the blessings of the members here to control this situation.

Any disagreements?
