"The revolver made in 1916 was sent for examination," police said, adding that the circumstances of the suspected burglary and shooting were being investigated.
The veteran will not face strict punishment even if a criminal case is opened.
Anybody who survived WWII on the Russian Front has to be one tough old geezer. Both he and the old gun were up to the challenge. If the burglar recovers from his wounds he will get to go to a Russian prison.

(3,291 posts)Good thing it wasn't in Chicago. The elderly veteran would certainly have been charged and the burglar would be suing the gun industry.

By the way, this incident happened in Ukraine and not Russia.

I wonder if he used that gun in WWII. It may be a valuable piece of history.

(5,417 posts)I've shot one of those guns before. The gun has about a 37 pound trigger pull.
An interesting fact is that in most revolvers there is a gap between the cylinder and barrel, where gasses escape, and lower velocity, these gasses can also be dangerous to a shooter, and kill your night vision. So they manufactures of that gun solved it, by seating the bullet all the way in the case (so the bullet doesn't even stick out), and when you pull the trigger, the cylinder moves forward, so seal the gap. Its the only revolver that I know of that does this, and maybe the only revolver that can effectively be silenced. Its a very interesting design, and quite advanced for the time, but it does come at the expense of a heavy trigger pull, which is why the design was never copied.
