F-35 flight tests show radar software problems: Pentagon

WASHINGTON

Radar software being tested for the F-35 stealth fighter jet made by Lockheed Martin Corp is not stable enough, Pentagon officials said in a written statement at a U.S. House Armed Services Committee hearing on Wednesday.

The issue caused sensors to restart once every four hours of flying due to the timing of software messages from the sensors to the main F-35 fusion computer and the aim was to improve this to one in every eight to 10 flying hours, the statement said.

Michael Gilmore, the Pentagon's chief weapons tester, said the program would not be ready for operational testing until mid-2018, a year later than expected, due to delays in completion of the jet's software and other issues. He said more than 300 planes would have been produced by the end of fiscal 2017, when that testing is now due to start.

Stop throwing good money after bad, and produce something that is actually likely to win on the battlefield.

This pig won't fly and there's no one to use it against if it did. Technology is already bypassing this dog and smaller, faster, more lethal airsupremacy vehicles are already ready to roll off the assembly line.
And those who might have an interest in this machine, Russia, China, Japan, Israel, are already developing planes that will out fight, out fly and out perform this piece of D.C. crap.

How many schools could have be rebuilt and restaffed with the money the government has already pissed down the black hole of military procurement for this thing?

Just an aside, do any of the DU membership remember how well publicized the Stealth program was? How about the high speed high altitude SR planes?
How come today you can show pictures of the goddam F35 on the covers of magazines?

This is SNAFU at its finest.

Kill this program, and stop building huge aircraft carriers that have bullseyes painted on them.

You don't have to be a pacifist to think that throwing money at this stuff is wrong.

Arrrggghhhh!
