The default, IIRC, is $35 a year, but he is generous and allows a star for $1. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

In fact, I would pay for extra spots if I could.

I understand why others retain the star for that feature.

And really hate the ads. I do take self enforced breaks from 2-7 days long, depending on my disgust level.

I haven't yet had any hides and I'm sure that's one of the reasons why. I fill up that jury blacklist and keep it filled. One of the people on my jury blacklist gets banned and I fill the spot right away.

I alerted on him/her and poof, it's gone. Amazing how much that person knows about DU.

Now I pay $10 a year so I can search.

There's a lot about DU I don't like, but I can't tell you how many times I've read something here & then 2-3 days later it's on the news.

There are a bunch of DUers who alert on, or vote to hide on, every single post possible from certain people. Bravenak, 1SBM, SheShe, etc. There are a number of DUers who have this happen, including a lot of AA DUers. It isn't about one DUer stalking people, it's about a group who has power because they work together to put in bad alerts and then hide every alerted post by certain people. I don't even know if they've networked to plan it, or if they just built up a following to do this. But I know something is going on when I see some of the hides the people who are getting swarmed get. In some cases, it looks like the DUer lost their temper and earned a hide, but in a lot of cases the hides look really questionable, at best.

Some white Clinton supporters seem to get bad alerts and hides too. I've seen bad alerts on some Bernie supporters as well, so it isn't all one sided, but on the other hand when 80% of the people on this site support one candidate, it's going to be biased simply because of that.

I'm host of CHaS, Florida, Loners, Weather Watchers and the BOG. Not willing to give all of those up.

With all due respect, Skinner, my original complaint stands.

I was a star member for years, but when I came back for this election, the first jury I was on allowed a racist piece of garbage post to stand, and there have been others since then, too. I won't give this site another dime until they do something substantive about the jury system, because it's being abused. Parts of this site are an ugly joke now, and it used to be my go to place. That makes me very sad.

More importantly, many (not all) on the left (and that includes me as a white woman) needs to take a good, long, hard look at their racism and sexism. I have learned so much about my own ingrained racism and sense of entitlement from this group and others, and I'm trying to do better every single day.
