you buy permission to use an image from a place like novelstock.com and then send it to a good designer. Kim Killion (hot damn designs) is good. I use Talina Perkins of bookinit designs. The whole process costs about $200 for a front cover and add another $60 or so to get the back cover.

They accepted my book for publication. It's a romance. The advance is $1,500 with 50% net royalties. I don't know why in heck Amazon should be "net." They're the seller. We'll see how it goes. No options clause, btw. E-book, audio, and translations rights only. You keep print rights.

And pay attention. If you submit the book, you've already agreed to the terms of their contract. It looks like a good contract, except for the "net" part.
