Who do you want to win the fight tonight ???

(73,308 posts)A lot comes down to which one has more left, at this point in their careers.
I've met both men. Martinez seemed a lot bigger to me. That's an important advantage.
Also, I attempted to photograph Martinez as he shadow-boxed in the ring. I took 16 shots; none came out good. The guy has unreal speed, and a free-style of movement without any pattern.
Of course, Cotto is outstanding at cutting off the ring. In doing so, he'll need to land the left hook to the body -- his most effective punch. It can be hard to continue moving quickly after taking those body shots for a few rounds. And, of course, a single hook to the liver can put any fighter down for the ten-count.
Cotto is an intense in-fighter. He uses his head, shoulders, elbows, and forearms very well. If the referee lets him get away with it, he is as good at "dirty" tactics as anyone of this era.
Martinez has suffered from both knee and hand problems. Cotto has scar tissue that opens up upon contact.
A good case can be made that either man will win. However, it is very unlikely to be "easy," or a one-sided bout.

(13,037 posts)I'm hoping that Sergio wins.
His style reminds me of Joe Calzaghe.
Hands down at his side.
Sneaking in and out.
Very little trash talk.
No flash.
Let's his hands do the talking.
He was my favorite boxer.
Have a great evening.

(73,308 posts)may go see Calzaghe tomorrow at the Hall of Fame. Heck of a champion. Hit and don't get hit is the best thing for one's post-boxing career.

(13,037 posts)Please tell Mr. Calzaghe hello from his number 1 fan and admirer in Ohio.
He certainly left a void in the boxing world and in my living room.
