I've worked on the "backside". Was a hay and feed delivery guy on second tier New England tracks. Things may be different on the top tier tracks, yet what I saw put me off of the glamor around horse racing. It's a grueling existence for the horses. And not a great life for some of the jockeys, as well. Many lived in the last stall on the shed row.
Just an aside. It's not all bright lights and roses, day to day.

It's a news event, gotta know about it, hope none of the horses get hurt. CA Chrome is the starpower or hype creation, I need to know.
