I also agree with California Chrome's owner. They should have to run all 3 races

Fresh horses have always been a possibility in the Belmont. Yes, it makes a Triple Crown much harder to achieve but IMO that is a good thing. Don't cheapen the achievement.

I thought California Chrome made a helluva run at immortality and if he hadn't grabbed a quarter at the start it could have been a totally different result. He needs to go home, heal his foot and get some rest. He can come back for Del Mar or Saratoga and beat the hell out of the horses he lost to yesterday.

The owners need to realize that we don't play this game in short pants. It's a tough and heartbreaking ride, sometimes and the Racing Gods can be cruel and fickle.

All the Derby also-rans skip it to rest up for the Belmont, leaving my home town Bawlmer with the Derby winner against a field of Maryland-breds and nags who couldn't qualify for the Derby.

I love the history of your storied track and some of those MD horses have been pretty good. Scrappy T, Magic Wiesner and Native Dancer.

Sorry about Chrome not being able to get it done. He did everything we could expect a running horse to do. I drink a toast to him. And a toast to next year's Triple Crown races. Yes, the Racing Gods have been unkind this year but a whole new group of 2YO's are getting ready this year. Maybe one of them will be the horse.
