Agent to Heat: LeBron opting out

Lebron James' agent, Rich Paul, has informed the Miami Heat that James will exercise his early termination option and become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Opting out does not mean that James has decided to leave the Heat, sources said.

James, a four-time NBA MVP, had until June 30 to decide whether to opt out of the final two years of his contract with the Heat. He was scheduled to make $20 million next season and had two years and about $42.7 million remaining on his deal.

After Miami's season-ending loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, James told reporters he would take a vacation with his family before considering his contract options.

NY could throw a garbage truck filled with $ at him & he'll still avoid NY like the plague. His ego couldn't take the pounding the NYC media would slap him daily with. I'm so confident of his fear of NYC that I'd drop $$$ on a authentic Lebron Knick jersey if he'd join the cult of Phil Jackson.

Most media in small market teams coddle their superstars. You not only have to be emotionally strong, you have to play like a Spartan warrior. It's why we love Jeter & guys like Charles Oakley. Those guys would hurl themselves into the seats to chase balls.

AFAIC, James Dolan is a control freak and a curse on the Knicks franchise; and as long as he's alive and breathing (Phil Jackson notwithstanding) the Knicks will never contend for, much less win, an NBA title.

<sigh> Too true.

It seems Jackson got him to back off & let Phil call the shots. Suprisingly I'm not too upset that Melo is gone. We'll see how our new ringleader runs the circus.
