Struggling Giants, Cain hammered by White Sox in 8-2 loss

Chicago -- So it's going to be a fire-and-ice season for the Giants, is it? No middle ground here?

For more than six weeks they were world beaters. Without warning, they became the beaten. They have entered a slide and could not find the brakes Tuesday night when they rolled into the South Side of Chicago for the first time in 11 years and got crushed 8-2.

Matt Cain took the brunt of it, allowing eight runs (seven earned) in five innings. All eight scored in a span of 16 hitters in the third, fourth and fifth.

Cain now has 13 career starts with at least seven earned runs. Six have come since the start of the 2013 season.
