but just sounds like Christians co-opting a Jewish celebration of an event that didn't happen with their own event that also never happened.

It's fairly clear that it's just Shavuot recast.

The first was the giving of the law written on stone through Moses. (And why that particular bit couldn't have ever happened, I don't know.)

The second is the giving of the law written on a different kind of "stone" through the HS.

The parallel fits easily and naturally, given the gospels.

We have a discussion on the Shavout thread about the nonexistence of Moses and the Exodus story not happening. No need to retread it here.

So it's a double recast, since Shavout is co-opted from other myths as well.

Partaking in the Spring and Woodland Rites. I have a fierce interest in religion but I have the heart of a Pagan. I don't really fit in with the atheists because I think I believe in something. I love science. I love nature and culture.

Thank you for sharing, my friend Justin.

And I love Plaid ' s Lewis Black. Man is he witty and brilliant. My kind of Jew.

parishioners volunteer to read petitions in different languages. For example, at our mass, the petitions were read in Farsi, German, Hungarian, and American Sign Language.

Also, last night there was an international "pot luck" dinner where all families were invited to share dishes that are particular to their culture. We weren't able to go, but I heard it was a nice event.

Thank you for posting this

How long does it stay? Does one have to go to a specific place or does it show up everywhere at once?

And lastly, why is this important or noteworthy?

Bad things even come to us disguised as the "angel of light." Perhaps as the Holy Spirit.

For this reason we are told in 1 John not to have TOO much faith in effect; but to "test the spirits."

Paul even added that the people in the wilderness had the authentic spirit of God in the wilderness, and the "rock" of Jesus too. But nevertheless they "perished in the wilderness" from sins.

"These things are lessons for us" he added.

The biblical moral is that what seems to be a Holy Spirit is often not so good after all.
