Mormon Women's Group Founder Kate Kelly Faces Excommunication

In trouble for questioning the "gender inequality" teachings, it looks like!

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/mormon-womens-group-founder-kate-kelly-faces-excommunication-n129151

Two months after Mormon Kate Kelly led hundreds in a demonstration to shed light on gender inequality in the religion — defying church orders to stay off Temple Square — the founder of a prominent Mormon women's group is facing excommunication.

Kelly said she was shocked, dismayed and devastated to receive a letter Sunday from the bishop of her congregation in Virginia informing her that a disciplinary hearing had been set for June 22 to discuss the possibility of her ouster.

The leader of Ordain Women is accused of apostasy, defined as repeated and public advocacy of positions that oppose church teachings. John P. Dehlin, the creator of a website that provides a forum for church members questioning their faith, is facing the same fate. He received his letter from a local church leader in Logan, Utah, on Monday, giving him until June 18 to resign from the faith or face an excommunication hearing.

The letter says church leaders are deeply concerned about Dehlin's recent comments about no longer believing fundamental teachings of the faith....

So of course she is being kicked out of god's religion and being scheduled for a whole lot of torture when she dies. Makes sense to me. If you believe in these sorts of myths, fables, and fairy tales.

Or at least not a hell to which the unfaithful are sent. Instead, they believe in several Degrees of Glory, to where one is assigned depending upon their righteousness. The worst of these places, Outer Darkness, is merely a realm completely cut off from the glory of God.

torture is involved. Google agrees.

Latter-day revelation speaks of hell in at least two senses. First, it is the temporary abode in the spirit world for those who were disobedient in mortality. In this sense, hell has an end. The spirits there will be taught the gospel, and sometime following their repentance they will be resurrected to a degree of glory of which they are worthy. Those who will not repent, but are nevertheless not sons of perdition, will remain in hell throughout the Millennium. After these thousand years of torment, they will be resurrected to a telestial glory (D&C 76:81–86; 88:100–101).

Second, it is the permanent location of those who are not redeemed by the atonement of Jesus Christ. In this sense, hell is permanent. It is for those who are found “filthy still” (D&C 88:35, 102). This is the place where Satan, his angels, and the sons of perdition—those who have denied the Son after the Father has revealed him—will dwell eternally (D&C 76:43–46).

Seems like they think they do.

As they say, it isn't eternal, nor is it necessarily a place of fire and brimstone and torture. The "torment" -- as I have been led to believe -- comes from being cut off from God's glory... and, if I had to guess, being made to read The Book of Mormon over and over and over again for a thousand years.

Could be worse.

It goes back to 1982 when we tried to ratify the Equal Rights amendment by getting 2/3 of the state's to sign on. The Mormons ran a secretive underground campaign against it covertly, and open warfare from the pulpit. (Same ploy they currently employ against gay rights)

I was also doing my best to be a Mormon housewife at that time. I wasn't a very good convert. I would sneak over to my best hippie former BYU graduate friend and listen to Sonia's speech on a cassette tape. I was bad.

Andrew Sullivan and Pope JP 2 come to mind--for the longest time, AS was convinced that JP2 was just getting bad advice, and he'd surely come 'round to reason and extend his blessings and welcome to the LGBT community. Of course, that never happened!

I don't think the Mormons will budge on the Woman issue, unless the women, en masse, revolt and stop putting up with the bullshit. If they all present a united front, with consequences for those who don't see things their way, they could fix this in no time. They just don't realize how much power they actually have.
