The Religious Institute, a multifaith organization dedicated to advocating for sexual health, education, and justice in faith communities and society, has released a guidebook for inclusive religious spaces of those with fluid sexualities. The guide book, Bisexuality: Making the Invisible the Visible in Faith Communities, aims to aid congregations minister to bisexual people and their families.
This first of its kind book urges faith leaders to break the silence on bisexuality and fully welcome bisexual people into their congregations. It's particularly timely because while the LGBT movement has seen great progress in recent years with marriage equality taking center stage even that conversation has largely been limited to couples in which both partners identify as gay or lesbian. There has been little to no conversation on same-sex or opposite sex marriages in which one or both individuals identify as bisexual, nor larger attention paid to other issues of relevance to bisexual people.
Questions that the guidebook aims to answer include: How can a congregation become welcoming and inclusive of bisexuals? What does Scripture say about bisexuality? Can a minister or rabbi be openly bisexual and serve a congregation?
The invisibility and even direct silencing of bisexual people can lead to great harm, said Marie Alford-Harkey, co-author and deputy director of the Religious Institute. In the silence, bisexual people are left wondering who will stand with them. Both in the faith world and the LGBT world there are great gaps in understanding. This guide can help religious and movement leaders to serve the whole community.

(19,288 posts)Not too much more at the link. I'm the one weirdo here who would be interested in looking into this further for more information. The comments were interesting. My nephew and his wife are pretty bi but he is wildly openly atheist so finding an open church wouldn't be his cup of tea.
Wish I had a research grant, an office in a respectable University, subjects to volunteer for a study, and I'd go nuts!
Everyone deserves love and understanding. Hope this group gets all the unconditional genuine affection they so clearly deserve to be validated with.(and someone could go to English writing school and be taught the prohibition against the run on sentence)
Is it the 'Dornish' in Game of Thrones, who make the best wine and swing both ways?

(146,218 posts)The group that put this out has some really interesting publications on their site. Wasn't aware of them until now.
Never seen Game of Thrones.
I recommend GOT. It is a bit different but I thought it was based on ancient history and I was busy trying to place the countries and tribes. It is a made up magical world that mimics our own. It seems medieval and it was recommended to me because I loved the Pillars of the Earth miniseries so much.(and the book)
I'll check the link.

(13,029 posts)He/she/it already either embraces or condemns bisexuality, and nothing this groups does or says can change that.
The real issue is with those who claim to believe in said "god", and why they particularly need guidance to treat people decently. There doesn't seem to be any need for such a handbook in stamp collecting or bird watching communities. Only religion fosters the need for such a thing.
